Photography Studio Day with Daf Williams

This workshop was set up as a self directed day, supported by UWTSD’s Artist in Residence and professional Photographer Daffyd Williams. The students were granted access to the Universities Photography Studio and the use of their specialist equipment.

The session begun with a relaxed atmosphere, the radio was on and the students viewed their screen printed T-shirts that they had produced with Bella Kerr and Tim Stokes in the first Raising the Bar master class.

Daf introduced himself and demonstrated the possible outcomes of the studio shots helping them to form ideas surrounding what could be done with the equipment. He encouraged the group to chat, discuss ideas and to take the lead.

The group explored a lot of shots that were ‘set up’ but include a large element of chance. They went from throwing newspaper infant of a wind machine, to throwing their screen printed T-shirts at the same time into the air.

At the end of the day the group previewed the photographs on a big screen projecter and assessed what they had achieved. They all requested copies for their own social media platforms and college/ portfolio work folders.
